The Best of Both Worlds - Vejer de la FronteraVejer de la Frontera, with its white buildings and Moorish architecture, seems to have a magic pulling power over travellers. Tucked away in one of its typically narrow streets lies the Casa Canos, a house that has been restored from almost total ruin by ambitious Londoners Sally and Greg Lownes. They chanced upon Vejer in 1995, fell in love with the Andalusian hideaway and discovered the shell that would become Hotel Casa Canos. The professionals were feeling burnt out with their city life. Greg was a tailor in busy Soho and Sally was a fashion stylist constantly working to deadlines. The project took three years to complete with plenty of hard work, tears and frustration, not to mention thousands of pounds in savings. The sacrifices paid off when in 1999, Casa Canos opened its doors .The result was spectacular and since then the business has thrived attracting visitors from around the world. With Heathrow Airport just ninety minutes away, the couple are still very much a part of London life. As Greg smiles, I can breakfast in the blazing Spanish heat and be at my desk in Soho by 11:30am. Life doesn't get much better!.
